Casablanca (1942)

Iconic doesn’t even begin to describe Casablanca. Filmed during the Second World War, this classic stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

The whole plot revolves around the choice between love and helping his lover and her husband escape from Vichy-controlled Casablanca.

For the four people in the entire world who haven’t seen this, we won’t spoil the ending. But we will let you know that there’s a casino film scene here with an epic roulette game focusing on 22…

Dr. No (1962)

The film that introduced James Bond to the world, Dr. No is a fantastic spy romp. Set in the early 1960s in Jamaica, there are definitely a few questionable comments and scenes involving blatant sexism and racism.

However, if you can look at this with a slightly critical 21st century eye and take it for what it is, you’ll have a fun time watching Dr. No.

It’s also where James Bond becomes synonymous with baccarat for the first time on the silver screen. Anyone who’s into the game, knows it’s the British spy’s flutter of choice.

Join Bond in one of the best casino film scenes in film history as he plays against a beautiful brunette in a stunning red dress, dripping in diamonds. He says the line, he charms the woman, the theme tune is playing. It’s all there in this scene.

The Hangover (2009)

For those of you who hasn’t seen The Hangover, it’s all about a group of friends who go to Las Vegas and have the worst (and in many ways the best) trip of their life.

After discovering The World’s Greatest Blackjack Book, the friends suit up and head to the blackjack tables to try their luck at card counting.

We’ll let you see for yourself how it ends, but (for legal and moral reasons) we have to say that you shouldn’t try this at home, kids!

Having said that, it’s one of the funniest casino film scenes we can think of.

Run Lola Run (1998)

Cult German film Run Lola Run is well worth a watch if you haven’t seen it already. Like the title suggests, this is a fast moving thriller, centred on a spunky redhead Lola.

She has just 20 minutes to find 10,000 Deutschmarks , and that’s where roulette comes in.

After running into the casino, she’s unsure of how to play any game and approaches the roulette wheel. She puts it all on 20. The music ramps up the tension for what just might be the most tension filled casino film scenes in history.

She bets again. And then lets out the loudest scream in roulette history while the wheel is spinning. Deep breaths are drawn and the winner is revealed…
